Sequestration numbers up again in Scotland

The number of people who have had sequestration orders made again them in Scotland has risen again.

Sequestration is the Scottish legal equivalent of personal bankruptcy and 3,527 such orders were made against Scots in the third quarter of 2007.

Of those, 1,545 were sequestered - a rise of 1.1% over the second quarter of 2007 - and will now face three years as a bankrupt and a further three years on credit blacklists.

A further 1,982 Scots entered into a Protected Trust Deed, the nearest Scottish equivalent to the Individual Voluntary Arrangement south of the border.
